Call for Proposals 

Saint Louis University is hosting the Health and Social Justice conference in September 2018 in commemoration of the University’s 200th Anniversary and to honor and celebrate the work done by students, faculty, and alumni of the University, as well as its partners.

In a Catholic, Jesuit University, social justice finds its origin in the dignity of every human being made in the image and likeness of God. As part of its mission, the University has supported the promotion of health, health care, public health, and health law in service to the social ideals of justice afforded by the dignity of every human being. The health of human beings is not only the health of individuals, but also needs the proper social and legal conditions that enable the health of communities.

In celebration of Saint Louis University’s work, students, faculty, and alumni of the University, as well as members of SLU’s Partner Organizations, are invited to submit abstracts of scholarly work or projects related to the theme Health and Social Justice. Examples of topics might include:

-        Health Promotion and Prevention

-        Health Care

-        Basic Science in Health and Health Care

-        Clinical Research in Health Care

-        Public Health

-        Health Equity and Health Justice

-        Health Law

-        Philosophy of Wellbeing

-        Philosophy of Medicine

-        Bioethics and Health Care Ethics

-        Theology and Bioethics


Individual papers can be submitted, as well as proposals for workshops or posters. Panels can be proposed around themes; we especially encourage interdisciplinary panels and panels made up of students, faculty, and/or University partners.

Panels and workshops will have up to 75 minutes, and should be limited to three speakers and a coordinator. Abstracts should be no longer than 1200 words. Papers will have approximately 25 minutes for presentation and proposals should not exceed 500 words. All abstracts will be peer-reviewed.

All papers accepted for presentation at the conference, as well as individual papers given in the panel sessions, will be published in the 200th Anniversary Conference Proceedings.
